When Simon came to us to build him a dream bike I knew it was going to be special. After initial conversations we found ourselves between our GR20 gravel bike and the XC21 cross country race bike. With the riding that Simon wanted to do with his riding group I was really keen for him to experience all the benefits of an awesome gravel bike. Simon is a little bit of a loose canon when he’s pointed down hilI, so I wanted to adapt our proven GR20 format to take on a little more abuse and give him a few get out of jail free cards for those bigger hits. I presented him with Lauf and Fox short travel gravel bike specific suspension fork options to pair with the GR20 frame. Both forks increased the head height a bit to accommodate the fork travel which consequently slacken the head angle as well. Neither would be an issue and would ultimately increase stability overall. Comfort and control were the main aim with the forks and we succeeded with this with a respectable weight gain. Simon opted for FOX due to his past experience of telescopic forks on XC bikes.

Forwards GR20 Number 19, XIX build highlights are as follows:

  • Size 54cm frame in Ventura Orange Pearl paint which we think is very FOX.

  • 2021 FOX 32 AX Adventure Cross gravel suspension fork with 40mm of travel. They offer 3 position on the fly control from the top dial, 22 click low-speed compression adjustment and 10 click low-speed rebound adjustment.

  • The added height of the forks allowed us to run less spacers to obtain Simon’s desired position.

  • Full Shimano GRX Mechanical groupset with our SLX rear mech solution while we wait for his GRX rear mech to arrive.

  • We have swapped out the front GRX calliper for a BR-R785 (Ultegra) post mount unit for fork compatibly. The function, colour and component level is identical to the GRX810 series unit it replaces.

  • We’ve fitted HUNT Carbon 35 Gravel wheels and mounted Maxxis Rambler 700x40c tyres tubeless with 80ml of Stans sealant in each.

  • After Simon was measured for size, an Ergon Enduro saddle takes care of comfort.

  • Our proven bottle cages and tool pod of choice finish off the essential add-ons, ready to load some bottles and hit the trails.

  • All this for 9.56kg with no pedals.
